Fun Quiz: Deserve ko ba mag-travel?

Traveling really is wonderful feeling, but it's also extra costly. In collaboration with Kaperang Goat, which is my podcast on Personal Finance, we have built this fun quiz to help you seek the sign and answer the question: "Dasurb ko ba mag-travel?"

I have embedded the quiz below, but before you jump into it, do remember that this is partially for fun. Please do not take the result of this quiz as a professional advise. If you are all good, you may now begin the quiz by scrolling below!

Before you go, here are some of the thoughts that I had when I was building the quiz.

It's hard to accept that travel isn't a need, but rather a want (and therefore considered "unnecessary")

What is the premise of this quiz?
This is rooted on the principle that suggests that we should have about 3 months of expenses in our emergency fund before diving into life's luxuries and "unnecessary spending". It's hard to accept, but travel isn't a need. It's a want! The only exception is when it is needed for work.

Basis of estimates for travel costs
The estimates used in this quiz are for budget to mid-range travel. For example, for all of the destinations, I based the airfare on budget airlines (such as Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines and the like). While for other aspects, I used moderate estimations which accounts for eating out in restaurants (not just fast food), a little bit of shopping, and going to theme parks (whenever applicable).

One of the ways to squeeze travel into your budget, and make it happen, is to shorten the trip.

Shortening trip to afford it
One of the ways to squeeze travel into your budget is to shorten the trip.

However, you need to contemplate more on it, since it's a double-edge sword. Shortening the trip does, in fact, help you spend less for the travel, but at the same time, shortening it makes the trip less sulit. This is because your airfare and other fixed costs such as visa application (if any) get distributed in less number of days.

...shortening the trip makes it possible for you to afford it, but it makes it less "sulit"

For example, if you have an airfare of P10,000 and you initially planned for 10 days of trip, that will make it seem like you are spending P1,000 a day for airfare. However, if you cut this short to 5 days, it will increase it to P2,000 a day. Hopefully, that illustration makes it easier to grasp.

TL:DR - if you can wait for a while so that you can allot more budget, do that instead of cutting your trip short.
